“I don’t know what I find more surprising Ms. Devereux,” Ultrawoman said. “That you are asking me to participate, or that you managed to contact me to arrange this meeting. I think it is safe to say that the Mayor’s office is not a supporter of my work, and there is no card in anyone’s Rolodex with my address.”

“I have my ways,” the Deputy Mayor replied in soft controlled voice. If she was feeling any stress being in close proximity with such a dangerous woman there was no outward indication of it. “I know someone who knows someone. Given my position and my responsibilities, I interact with a wide variety of persons in every social and economic class daily. There are people I make deals with in order to keep the garbage trucks rolling, whose other activities are in direct conflict with the police commissioner and district attorney’s office. I recognize the complexities of the human condition however, and I know that more times than not the concept of black and white is a myth. The real work. The important work. It is accomplished in the gray area.”

“Which brings us back to my participation,” Vyr-Na answered impatiently. “Why would you think I’d be interested in having my photo displayed among a group of woman who has each publically stated their shared desire to have me incarcerated? I am not known for my charitable nature, and I assure you that I have no interest in repairing the damage your heroes inflict upon Angel Falls. I am a more what’s in it for me girl.”

“You have just stated quite well what is in it for you,” Cassandra said smiling as she pressed her intercom button. ”Nate would you send Cindy in please?”

Moments later the office door opened and a tall blonde woman entered wearing a very revealing one piece bathing suit. She strode confidently across the carpeted floor like it was a fashion show catwalk, and expertly posed; moving about provocatively displaying the garment from every angle. The Deputy Mayor gave the woman a friendly smile and nodded, and without saying a word the model glided out of the office the door closing behind her.

“That,” Cassandra Devereux said, is a Roxanne Mayhew original. The swimsuit is one of a kind, and it was made exclusively for you. As good as it looks on Cindy, it will look stunning on you. Now. You asked me why you should participate in my project and what is in it for you?”

“Yes, and what is in it for me, is…?”

“The heroes are going to hate you being in the book. Hate sharing the spotlight with Ultrawoman. You are going to make them look, what is that term you use? They are going to look mundane compared to you. So tell me. Do you prefer to be called Ultrawoman, or ‘the Ultrawoman'?”

The blonde Amazonian villain stood still for a moment, then began to smile. “You can call me Vyr-Na.”
